Coron, Palawan

I was itching to get a tan (friends shouting in the background "ang puti mo teh!" as i nod in agreement lol). So, I made a resolution late 2010 that I would visit atleast "12 Beaches in 2011". No particular place or time just as long as I complete my list. No pressure, just pure fun :D

Albeit late (or rather very late), let me start with my very first trip last January.

Destination: Coron, Palawan
via Cebupac Airlines to BUSUANGA (Francisco B. Reyes Airport)
Jan 6-9, 2011
Arrival: 10:30am
Fare: Php 2600

Tour Package by:

Hat's off to Ms. Leidy and her crew! Seriously, she made this trip all the more fun and hassle free. Go give her a shout out if you plan to visit Coron. Believe me, she knows what she's doing :)

Ahhh, how I miss the sea breeze, the fresh food, the tranquility that is Coron.

Day 1:
Touchdown at Busuanga Airport, pick up to and from the terminal has been prearranged all of which was included in our Tour Package. We were initially hoping to stay at Princess of Coron, but even after trying to book 6 weeks in advance they could not accommodate all 15 of us, given other options, we decided on Coron Village Lodge.

After having lunch at the Lodge, we were off to our first stop...
  • Kayangan Lake
Almost there...
I was under the impression that we were going to dock on the lake itself, guess I was wrong :) Well, no pain no gain...

stairway leading up (or rather down? well whatever) to Kayangan Lake
Believe me, no matter how much i try to capture the beauty of this place...i just can't give it any justice. The infamous rock formation (pic below) and what seems to be the most photographed place in Coron.

And without further adieu, here ladies and gentlemen is a 360 degree view of Kayangan Lake.

pick your spot
careful now, those rocks underneath are quite sharp!
Incredibly crystal clear waters...
  • Siete Pecados Marine Park
Our guide was giving us a brief overview of the place but I wasn't paying attention, my bad :) You see, i was in awe when i peeked below and saw loads of all kinds of marine life...and before we even docked i was already donning my vest and snorkeling gear.

Time to meet the sea critters :) Feeding Nemo up close and personal.

Corals. These photos are no way near what they look like in person

Waterworld at its finest...
  • Maquinit Hot Springs
Moving on to the final leg of our 1st day, skinny dipping (yah wish! hehe), really not a whole lot of dipping, one body part at a time as we try to acclimate our limbs to this one seriously HOT Spring.

photogenic bridge leading up to the spring
I think, I only had my toes in the water at this point lol
Be warned, it's slimy underfoot so watch your step. Some sort of moss, algae or seaweed infested pool but you'll get used to it lol
a great way to end the day
Our very first Coron sunset with Kuya Bangkero (emo hehe)
Now back to the lodge for dinner, too tired and lazy to go out. Took pics of the dining area, some eclectic finds.

me likey...
pretty neat Matryoshka Dolls (the Babushka :D)
Day 2:
Rise and shine! Banana Island here we come :D
  • Banana Island
When in Coron, expect no less than powdery white sand beaches. You guys, make sure to stay the night here at Banana Island :) There's really no beach front at the town proper...you need to ride a tricycle going to the port, hop on a boat and go around the island for that beach bumming experience.

Here's their Dining Hall where all the good food disappears..
You can stay the night here if you like and hope the bed bugs wont bite :p
not just THE BEACH, its THE LIFE!
yep, do the kayak

i was about to, but then our food beckons lol
view from our kubo
Alright so, lunch was served and we had the freshest sea food you can get your hands on.

Must.resist.shellfish.allergy.attack.

The weather was great, the water inviting, but before taking a dip...

some decided to play ball...

while others took a nap...

and build, well uhmm sand something lol
  • Malcapuya Island
There's no scarcity of fine white sands here in Coron, and it better stay that way...
cam't wait to roll over and play dead hehe

what plant is this? anybody? it was cute though, sitting by itself on the beach
oh yeah...a view deck
look mah!
  • Bulog Dos
A quaint island with a sandbar that connects to a privately owned island (you can see some construction underway). We had this place all to ourselves and had a nice pictorial going on (which I will keep to myself), with the sunset as our backdrop :)

And so we're back to Banana Island counting the hours of our second day in Coron. Ending the day with some card games and booze.

Up early the next day, had Longganisa ala Coron (brought some home with me since it was so good, fresh from the market packed tight for transport)

  • Banol Beach
Lunch break destination (imagine Jollibee or McDonalds during lunch LOL). We arrived with almost a dozen other boats docked along its shore. Had to cross and jump ship to get on the island.

Our ever dependable host and guide was busy preparing lunch and we were left to enjoy the place and soak up the sun.

We lounged near the crevice of those rock formation seeking its shade while waiting for lunch.

  • Twin Peaks and Twin Lagoon
What.a.view! It was breathtaking.

Tell you honestly? I wasn't sure where the Twin Peaks went to! haha
That was my initial thought until I saw all these boats again LOL See, I was wondering where they all went to after Banol Beach, now i know :D

We went into the lagoon. And i'm finally showing some faces :)

I'm gonna end it here and not talk about any more shit when we got back on land lol but I hope you enjoyed the ride as much as I did :D Till the next time....

Ta-ta :D
